Polynesien (von polý ‚viel‘ und nesoi ‚Inseln‘) ist sowohl eine großflächige pazifische Inselregion als auch das östlichste der Kulturareale Ozeaniens. Mit einer Fläche von knapp 50 Millionen km² ist sie die größte Inselregion Ozeaniens. Auf der Landfläche von rund 294.000 km², woran Neuseeland mit rund 91 % den größten Anteil hat, leben etwa sechs Millionen Menschen.

Polynesia (UK: ; US: , from "poly" many + "nesos" island) is a subregion of Oceania, made up of over 1,000 islands scattered over the central and southern Pacific Ocean. The indigenous people who inhabit the islands of Polynesia are termed Polynesians and they share many similar traits including language family, culture, and beliefs. Historically, they were experienced sailors and used stars to navigate during the night.
