Jarvisinsel
Die Jarvisinsel (engl.: Jarvis Island []) ist eine geographisch zu den Line Islands und politisch zu den Außengebieten der Vereinigten Staaten gehörende kleine, unbewohnte Insel im südlichen Pazifik, etwa in der Mitte zwischen Hawaii und den Cookinseln. Es handelt sich dabei um ein sogenanntes nicht inkorporiertes Territorium der Vereinigten Staaten und wird aus statistischen Gründen den United States Minor Outlying Islands zugeordnet.

Jarvis Island
Jarvis Island (; formerly known as Bunker Island) is an uninhabited  coral island located in the South Pacific Ocean at , about halfway between Hawaii and the Cook Islands. It is an unincorporated, unorganized territory of the United States, administered by the United States Fish and Wildlife Service of the United States Department of the Interior as part of the National Wildlife Refuge system. Unlike most coral atolls, the lagoon on Jarvis is wholly dry.

Background
First discovered by the British in 1821, the uninhabited island was annexed by the US in 1858, but abandoned in 1879 after tons of guano had been removed. The UK annexed the island in 1889, but never carried out plans for further exploitation. The US occupied and reclaimed the island in 1935. Abandoned after World War II, the island is currently a National Wildlife Refuge administered by the US Department of the Interior; a day beacon is situated near the middle of the west coast.
