Weißrussland (/Belarus, /Belarus bzw. traditionell Белоруссия/Belorussija) – in zwischenstaatlichen Dokumenten amtlich Belarus – ist ein osteuropäischer Binnenstaat, der an Polen, die Ukraine, Russland, Lettland und Litauen grenzt und dessen Hauptstadt Minsk ist. Bei der Auflösung der Sowjetunion 1991 wurde die ehemalige Sowjetrepublik unabhängig. 1994 wurde Aljaksandr Lukaschenka Präsident, der das Land autoritär regiert. Westliche Kritiker bezeichnen das Land häufig als „letzte Diktatur Europas“.

Its capital is Minsk; other major cities include Brest, Hrodna (Grodno), Homiel (Gomel), Mahiliou (Mogilev) and Vitsebsk (Vitebsk). Over 40% of its is forested. Its strongest economic sectors are service industries and manufacturing.
