ALOHA ist ein Zugriffsverfahren der Sicherungsschicht (DLL, OSI-Schicht 2) aus dem Bereich der Computernetze. Das ALOHA-Protokoll wurde 1970 von Norman Abramson entwickelt und 1971 für das ALOHAnet, welches die vielen Inseln um Hawaii mit der Universität von Honolulu, Hawaii verband, erstmals eingesetzt. Es war ursprünglich als Funknetz gedacht und bildete später die Grundlage für das Ethernet-Protokoll. Es handelt sich dabei um ein  TDMA-Multiplexverfahren.

Aloha ist ein Wort der hawaiischen Sprache, das auch weit über den Ursprungsraum bekannt geworden ist.

Das ALOHAnet war das erste Funk-Rechnernetz. Es basierte auf dem ALOHA-Protokoll und verband die vielen Inseln um Hawaii mit der Universität von Honolulu, Hawaii. Auch wenn es heute nicht mehr in Betrieb ist, so ist eines der Grundprinzipien des ALOHA-Protokolls Basis des Ethernet.

Aloha in the Hawaiian language means affection, peace, compassion, and mercy. Since the middle of the 19th century, it also has come to be used as an English greeting to say and hello. "Aloha" is also included in the state nickname of Hawaii, the "Aloha State."

ALOHAnet, also known as the ALOHA System, or simply ALOHA, was a pioneering computer networking system developed at the University of Hawaii. ALOHAnet became operational in June, 1971, providing the first public demonstration of a wireless packet data network. ALOHA originally stood for Additive Links On-line Hawaii Area.
